Robar OR-2F .308

A few years ago, I was training a close protection team that was armed with handguns, shotguns and AR15 rifles. They felt they also needed precision .308 rifles for countersniper missions. In addition to accuracy and reliability, they wanted countersniper rifles that would conceal easily since their VIP wanted all firearms hidden unless they had to be deployed.

robar-2The covert countersniper rifle they desired required research, which led to discussions with weapons’ designers. The team’s demands led me to reach out to a few companies including Robar Companies. Working together, we came up with the parameters of another version of their already existing Robar QR-2F (Quick Response) precision rifle. The concept was then tested. Since that time a few years ago, I’ve been using this rifle and recently decided to update the optics.

The basic rifle is the Remington 700 with a BDL action that is completely accurized. It includes grinding, lapping and hex head action screws. The trigger is worked over for a smooth pull of 2.5 pounds.

The fluted match grade Robar QR-2F barrel is normally 20 inches, but 16.25 inches seemed to be ideal length and the muzzle was precisely crowned. The overall length is 36 inches long with the stock open and 24.25 inches with the stock folded for storage. The barrel lengths must be at least 16 inches and the overall length with stock extended must be at least 26 inches to avoid classification as an SBR (short barreled rifle). For even more compact operations, one could purchase the Robar QR-2F and pay a tax to go through the BATFE’s (Bureau of Alcohol, Tabacco, Firearms and Explosives) paperwork for a SBR for an even shorter barrel. That would be around 12 inches. That effort would bring the folded length of the rifle down to around 20 inches allowing it to fit into an array of clandestine carrying cases.
