The proliferation of AR-15/AR-10-type rifles continues to grow in hunting camps across the country. Those guns range from tactical models with component upgrades to long-range builds carried afield. Now Rock River joins what is becoming another popular trend. The Rock River All-Terrain Hunter (ATH) comes built specifically for hunting pursuits.

Rock River All-Terrain Hunter Details

The ATH features an 18-inch heavy-match stainless steel barrel. It comes cryogenically treated for stability and accuracy, according to Rock River. The process promotes longevity even in high-volume hunting such as prairie dog shooting. The rifle’s chamber specs at .223 WYLDE, accommodating both 5.56mm and .223 Rem hunting loads. The barrel utilizes a 1:8 twist. Better still, Rock River guarantees 3/4-inch accuracy at 100 yards.

The barrel mates to a forged AR upper receiver, shrouded by a 13-inch extended, lightweight free-float handguard. A co-witnessed, full-length rail system delivers room for variable-power optics and night vision/thermal. with M-LOK attachment points, this rifle should excel for night shoots. Bolt on bipods, slings, lights–you name it.

Beyond the standard, the ATH shines with several hunting-driven component choices. A winter trigger guard gives shooters plenty of room to get on the trigger while wearing gloves. A Hogue pistol grip delivers solid purchase and control during inclement weather. A six-position RRA Operator CAR buttstock brings a generous cheek weld and textured buttplate. A quick-detach sling mounting points and watertight battery storage add to the utility.

A star safety selector continues the theme of components that deliver in all conditions. Finally, a 3.5-4-pound trigger helps shooters pull the most accuracy potential from their shot. An RRA Operator muzzle brake, plastic hard case and 20-round steel magazine round out the package.

Editor’s Take:

This trend will likely continue for some time: AR-style rifles marketed for hunting pursuits. Viewing through that lens, the RRA ATH offers a solid all-around platform. We feel like the 18-inch match-grade barrel brings a smart, do-it-all type of platform. In 3-gun, competitors validated the 18-inch barrel/mid-length gas system as a solid setup for close- to medium-range applications. So out to 500 yards or so, depending on the shooter, you should see great balance between overall weight, recoil, speed and accuracy out of this package. We wouldn’t call this a deer rifle for most folks. But all varmint and predator shooting should be on tap with the ATH.
