Rogers Shooting School – VIDEO

What brings the top Tier One shooters from almost every friendly military government around the world to north Georgia? Two words—Bill Rogers. The Rogers Shooting School has been in existence for over 25 years, and is unique in philosophy, technique and testing. Talk to anyone who has attended a course at Rogers and the first question is, “How did you do on ‘The Test’?”

Rogers’ training philosophy revolves around a comprehensive understanding of how the conscious and subconscious minds work. His drills are all shot on reactive steel targets under extraordinary time pressures. These times are not arbitrary, but based on the body’s response to stimulus. This is a speed-shooting course where there is no time for a perfect sight picture and a slow, steady trigger squeeze for a “surprise break.”

So how fast are the drills? The first drill requires the student to start from an extended ready position and hit the plate in a half second from 8 yards! I can tell you from personal experience that that is quick!

Students shoot “The Test” at least once a day. This consists of nine drills with a possible point value of 125. Almost half of the drills are shot strong- and support-hand unsupported. How difficult is it? A perfect score has only been shot three times in over 30 years—twice by Rogers and once by Rob Leatham. Students earn a basic, intermediate, or advanced classification based on their score. Those who don’t make basic receive a certificate of attendance.
