Biden Uses Sacramento Shooting to Push for More Gun Control

Well, if nothing else, Democrats are consistent. When they say, “never let a good crisis go to waste,” they mean it. Although, I don’t think well-adjusted people would call any crisis “good,” I guess it’s all a matter of perspective. And, depending on which side of the aisle you sit, the shooting in Sacramento this weekend was a good crisis. One that is not going to waste, as President Biden uses it to push for more gun control.

Biden Uses Sacramento Shooting to Push More Gun Control

As we have been reporting lately, violent crime is surging in the wake of the defund the police movement. Notably, violent crime in Democrat-run cities is getting completely out of hand. The shooting in Sacramento, California this weekend poses another tragic example of the new normal.

According to USA Today, “The downtown area was packed with bar crowds at the time and a large fight broke out right before the shooting, [Police Chief Kathy] Lester said Sunday.”

Independent journalist Andy Ngo posted a video to Twitter the following morning, showing the scene leading up to the shooting:

Although not much is known about the suspects yet, the Sacramento Police have confirmed that a stolen gun was used.

KCRA 3 Sacramento reports, “Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying who is responsible. Beyond saying that a stolen gun was recovered and multiple shooters were involved, Lester did not give specifics on the type of guns used and details about possible suspects.”

Quick! To the Virtue Signal!

While Sacramento mourns the loss of 6 of its citizens to the scourge of rising violent crime, Biden took to the podium. As was expected, he didn’t address rising crime or failed policies. Instead, it was the guns. It’s always the guns.

Fox News reports, “But we must do more than mourn; we must act,” Biden said. “That is why my Administration has taken historic executive action to implement my comprehensive gun crime reduction strategy — from standing up gun trafficking strike forces to helping cities across the country expand community violence interventions and hire more police officers for community policing.”

No one is arguing that we don’t need to do more than mourn. What took place in Sacramento was tragic and should never have happened. But we need to look to real solutions, not lip service leading up to midterm elections. However, Biden promises to address the problem from the same tired, worn-out angle.

Fox News goes on, “We also continue to call on Congress to act,” he said. “Ban ghost guns. Require background checks for all gun sales. Ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Repeal gun manufacturers’ immunity from liability. Pass my budget proposal, which would give cities more of the funding they need to fund the police and fund the crime prevention and intervention strategies that can make our cities safer. These are just a few of the steps Congress urgently needs to take to save lives.”

Second Verse, Just Like the First

While it sounds like Biden has a plan that will appease the gun grabbers, there is something very familiar about his list. As I am sure you have already figured out, these are all ideas that are already in place in California.

According to a report on Breitbart, “California already bans ghost guns.

“California has required background checks for all gun sales since the 1990s.”

The list goes on to include:

“California has banned ‘assault weapons’ since the 1990s.

“California bans ‘high capacity’ magazines.

“Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is pushing to allow private citizens to sue gun makers.”

Not to mention, he calls for a ban on “assault weapons,” even though the police have stated that they do not know what kind of guns were used.

However, there is one idea in his plan that may not be new, but it is new to the Democrat party. He calls for giving cities more funding for the police and crime prevention and intervention strategies. So, basically, he is calling for the funding to fix the problem created by Democrat “defund the police” policies.

Although most of his speech was election year hyperbole, at least he is calling to re-fund the police. And that is a step in the right direction. But until Democrats are willing to look at the facts in these cases (like the involvement of a stolen gun) this is not going to stop. It is time the Democrats admit their policies on leniency, bail reduction/removal, etc. have failed and move on.

Taking firearms out of the hands of law-abiding citizens is only going to lead to exacerbating the problem. There is a reason there are never mass shootings at gun stores and police departments—too many people with guns.
