After 30 years in law enforcement, I’ve come to the point where I really don’t like dragging a lot of gear through brush and fields during our tactical operations in the largely rural jurisdictional area where I work. Dragging a long-barreled, excessively heavy precision rifle just doesn’t trip my trigger anymore. My personal sniper rifle, for example, is a 20-inch barreled AR in 6.8 SPC.
Needless to say, I prefer light and handy carbines with reasonable recoil that are capable of precision shots from a cold barrel. So, when I spotted the Savage Model 10 Precision Carbine in .308, I was immediately intrigued.

Gun Details
Available in both .308 and .223 chamberings, the Model 10 Precision Carbine not only is compact (it is a carbine after all), but it is also ready “out-of-the-box” for deployment. Besides the short 20-inch heavy barrel and light 7-pound weight, there is also the factory applied Army digital camouflage stock, two sling swivel mounting points on the forend (one for a sling, one for a bipod or other type of accessory), an enlarged bolt handle, detachable 4-shot box magazine and the absolutely outstanding Savage AccuTrigger. It also has one other characteristic that will make individual officers and agencies alike happy—a very reasonable price of $880.
