FIRST LOOK: A New Government Model is Here With the Savage 1911

Savage Arms makes monumental firearms news today, formally announcing its emergence into the 1911 market. That’s right, the Savage 1911 is here! A remarkable full-circle moment for one of America’s most enduring firearm manufacturers, Savage now puts its own spin on arguably America’s most iconic semi-auto pistol.

Savage 1911 Details

Right from the jump, Savage did a remarkable job giving the pistols a distinctive look and feel. That’s an accomplishment for a platform spanning 100+ years and exceedingly copied and produced at this point. Nevertheless, designers selected smart features and sculpted the slide and frame in ways that seem to make these pistols a Savage.

“Savage ended 2021 with the introduction of Stance, a micro-compact 9mm handgun,” said Beth Shimanski, Director of Marketing at Savage Arms. “A year later in 2022, we’re ending strong yet again in the handgun arena with the launch of the Savage 1911 Government Style Models. We’re extremely excited to introduce this iconic firearm bearing the Savage name.”

Beyond the look, we see some performance-based selections as well. A forged stainless frame and slide provide a solid backbone. But the 5-inch barrel, machined from stainless billet, comes with a target crown for accuracy. Throw in a dual recoil spring, fully machined sear and hammer, and we see features that make 1911s run. A lowered, flared ejection port brings a welcome inclusion also.

“I’ve worked in the firearms Industry for over 30 years and started my career as a professional shooter,” said Rob Gates, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Savage Arms. “This Savage 1911 is as real as they come and shoots better than any production 1911 I’ve handled during my 30 plus years in this industry.”

Built to Carry & Shoot

Novak Lo-Mount sights and rails on select variants deliver everything most folks want these days in defensive carrying and shooting. A Mega Dot Glow Dome Yellow front sight provides a solid sight picture. Real estate for lights and lasers give shooters the accessories they desire for concealed carry.

Finally, stainless or Melonite finishes should protect these guns against everyday use. A Nitride-coated titanium firing pin brings another upgrade. VZ G10 grips round out an impressive first package for this new series of Government Model pistols.

Three different finishes mark the debut of the Savage 1911.

Basically, the Savage 1911 comes in three basic styles or finishes: Black Melonite, Stainless, or 2-Tone. Each pistol comes chambered in .45 ACP or 9mm. And Savage offers each pistol in a Rail Gun version or without. So that’s 12 different pistols to choose from right out of the gate.
