Savage Arms’ Exciting New A17 In .17 HMR

The .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire (HMR) is a fast little cartridge built from a necked-down .22 Magnum. Because of its speed, however, many shooters have only been able to reliably run the .17 HMR in bolt-action rifles. Now Savage Arms has changed all that with the introduction of its new A17, a semi-automatic rifle built specifically for the .17 HMR.

This is the next generation of rimfire autoloaders. The A17 utilizes a delayed-blowback action to reliably cycle every .17 HMR round. The rifle also features a hardened steel receiver that is machined from a billet for tight tolerances, and the bolt is chrome plated for greater strength. Like other rimfire autoloaders, the A17 comes with an eight-round rotary magazine that is easy to load and unload. It simply slips into the bottom of the synthetic stock and clicks into place, much like a Ruger 10/22 rotary magazine.

The synthetic stock features a ribbed surface for a secure grip and the butt of the grip features Savage’s logo. The forend is also stylishly textured for a strong grip. Other features include the Lightning Bolt Action trigger, which is adjustable down to 2.5 pounds.
