Meet the Savage MSR 10 Long Range, One of Four Savage ARs

Savage Arms is best known for its high-quality bolt-action rifles, so when the company announced earlier this year that it was entering the AR market for the very first time, the industry sat up and took notice. This year at SHOT Show, we got a look at the new Savage MSR (Modern Savage Rifle) line. There are four offerings in the Savage MSR family: the MSR 10 Long Range and MSR 10 Hunter in .308 Win. and 6.5 Creedmoor, and the MSR 15 Recon and MSR 15 Patrol in .223 Rem. Built on a compact frame with a non-reciprocating charging handle, the Savage MSR 10 Long Range features a fluted 20-inch barrel with 5R rifling and a Melonite QPQ finish; BLACKHAWK! AR Blaze two-stage target trigger; Magpul PRS Gen3 stock; custom forged upper and lower; 10-round capacity; free-float MLOK handguard, and overall length and weight of 41 5/8 inches and 9.75 pounds. It’s available at a suggested retail price of $2284.

Here’s a quick rundown on the other three Savage MSRs.

The MSR 10 Hunter sports a 16 1/8-inch barrel (18 inches in 6.5 Creedmoor) with 5R rifling and a Melonique QPQ finish. Other features include a BLACKHAWK! AR Blaze trigger; free-float fore-end; custom-forged lower receiver and a BLACKHAWK! adjustable buttstock and pistol grip. It has a 20-round capacity and retails for $1481.

Next up, the Savage MSR 15 Recon. Available only in .223 Rem., it features a Melonite QPQ 16 1/8-inch barrel with 5R rifling and a 223 Wylde target chamber; BLACKHAWK! AR Blaze trigger; Free-float M-LOK handguard; BLACKHAWK! KNOXX AR Pistol Grip and AXIOM Carbine Stock; BLACKHAWK! flip-up sights; overall length of 33.5 inches – 36.75 inches, 30-round capacity, and an overall weight of seven pounds. It’s available for $999.

Lastly, the Savage MSR 15 Patrol in .223 Rem comes with a 16 1/8-inch barrel with 5R rifling, Melonite QPQ finish and 223 Wylde target chamber; Mil-spec upper and lower; Mil-spec trigger; BLACKHAWK! KNOXX AR Pistol Grip and AXIOM Carbine Stock; BLACKHAWK! flip-up sights; 30-round capacity; overall length of 32.5 inches – 35.75 inches; overall weight of 6.5 pounds, and a custom A-frame gas block front sight. MSRP: $852.
