The competition-ready Savage MSR 15 Valkyrie features an 18-inch barrel with 5R rifling; two-stage trigger; Hogue pistol grip; URB Gen 2 buttstock; forward assist; and a muzzle brake with a 1/2×28, Class 3 barrel thread.

Also included in the rifle is an Elite Series Cerakote finish that forms a protective layer on the upper and lower, and an adjustable mid-length gas system customizable to specific ammunition for reliable cycling.

But the 224 Valkyrie chambering is the marquee feature here. In the press release, Savage says the round “produces flat trajectories, supersonic velocities up to 1,300 yards downrange and match-grade accuracy.”

In a separate presser, Federal Global Product Lane Director Mike Holm said the 224 Valkyrie ” is based on a 30 Rem./6.8 SPC case necked down to .224 caliber … It beats the ballistics of all other MSR 15 cartridges, including the 22 Nosler, 223 Rem. and 6.5 Grendel. Plus, it offers comparable performance to larger rounds like the 6.5 Creedmoor, with roughly half the felt recoil—and at a more economical price.”

Right now, the 224 Valkyrie is available in four loads right now: 90-grain Gold Medal Sierra MatchKing ($31.95), 60-grain Nosler Ballistic Tip Varmint ($26.95), 90-grain Fusion MSR ($28.95) and 75-grain American Eagle TMJ ($12.95).

“The easiest way for shooters to capitalize on the new cartridge is purchase a firearm from one of the many gun makers jumping on the 224 Valkyrie bandwagon,” says Holm. “You can also buy a new upper and use it with your existing lower. A gunsmith or other person trained in building MSRs can also make the necessary modifications.”

The Savage MSR 15 Valkyrie is available at a MSRP of $1,499.
