How Does the Savage Arms Rascal Target XP Rifle Rank Amongst Rimfires?

The joy of shooting. As adults, we love to shoot and doing so makes us exude happiness. As we train and gain more knowledge, although still happy, we tend to focus on drills and accuracy, striving to do better. This is as it should be, after all, we are adults. There is; however, something to be said for feeling that childlike wonder and joy when handling a gun, raw emotion set apart from any adult thought. This was the unexpected feeling that washed over me as I handled the Savage Arms Rascal Target XP rifle.

What a Rascal!

My initial reaction when I first saw the Rascal, to my own dismay, was utterly all girl. The first words out of my mouth were, “Oh, my goodness that is so cute!” Here set this perfectly scaled-down version of a full-size bolt gun, complete with an optic and bipod. I couldn’t wait to shoot it. When I did, I was taken back by the Rascal in two ways.

First, I immediately went back in time to shooting a rifle as a little girl with my father. A time void of adult responsibility, experiencing nothing but the joy of shooting and bonding with my dad.

The second way was the amazement of the innovation of Savage Arms. The Rascal Target XP, although small in stature is quite a little powerhouse. Shot after shot I was mesmerized at the accuracy and adaptability of this 22-caliber rifle.

Accuracy and adaptability exists due to Savage Arms careful design, with a precision hardwood stock, heavy 16 1/8-inch barrel, one-piece Picatinny rail and threaded muzzle (1/2-28). The Rascal XP was not hastily designed. As Savage Arms website states, “The world’s safest micro rimfire has come of age.”

Running the Savage Arms Rascal Target XP

The 22 ammo is loaded one at a time into the feed ramp, which is an excellent safety feature. With this feature, there is no worry of tiny hands becoming trigger happy, expelling rounds by accident.

The Rascal also unloads with ease without having to pull the trigger. A full-size feature that has been included on the Rascal Target XP is the AccuTrigger. This trigger is easily adjustable by the shooter and offers a light, clean pull with no creep. This prevents the firearm from discharging if jarred or dropped. These features clearly give the Rascal Target XP an edge, enabling it to stand out in safety, accuracy and functionality among its competition.
