Nearly a year later, we found ourselves on the range again with Savage at the recent Athlon Outdoor Rendezvous. This time we got our hands on the new Savage Renegauge Turkey. Purpose built for chasing gobblers, the Renegauge Turkey delivers on all fronts.

“This gun launched in 2020, SHOT Show. It was a big hit. It’s an American-made shotgun, it is an autoloader,” said David Higginbotham, Savage Arms. The best part about this is the dual-regulating inline valves, right here. There’s two. So when you pull the trigger, the gas comes up and vents just enough to drive the action.

The regulating valve design means shooters always have their shotgun dialed to the right ammo. Pound targets with slugs, turkey loads or even take on sporting clays with target loads. The shotgun digests all fodder, without even on adjustment needed.

“So if you’re running really, really hot 3-inch shells for hunting loads, or 2 3/4-inch target loads, it doesn’t matter,” Higginbotham said. “The action takes just what it needs to cycle, ejection is very clean, recoil is very, very mild. The rest of the excess gas vents forward, up here to the gun. And it makes for a totally reliable auto shotgun that doesn’t require any adjustments by the end user to run effectively from the range to the hunt.”
