Debates within the concealed carry world have been going on for years and will more than likely continue for years to come. From which gun is best to even what position of carry, everyone has an opinion. While there are some hard and fast guidelines that should never be compromised, the most important thing to remember when it comes to concealed carry is that it’s based on the individual. Firearms are not a “one size fits all” type of purchase. Its imperative individuals find something that fits them well and they are able to run comfortably. Of course, our budget will always play a part. Everyone has the right to protect themselves, but not all of us have unlimited finances to utilize towards obtaining the “high-end” gun everyone else deems as “the best.” This is where companies like SCCY Firearms have changed the game.

SCCY 9mm Pistols for Conceal Carry
SCCY Firearms are definitely budget friendly. By no means are these “bargain basement” guns, rather a well-made, reliable gun that won’t break the bank. Less expensive isn’t always defined by cheaply made. SCCY Firearms founder Joe Roebuck has a unique background in machining. This enabled him to create a quality firearm with cost saving features such as CNC machining a heat-treated, aircraft-grade aluminum alloy receiver from bar stock that is then mounted in a molded Zytel polymer grip frame versus machining the entire grip frame and receiver as one unit. A coil mainspring that’s stretched instead of compressed to power the double-action-only concealed hammer, a double-nested recoil spring on a metal guide rod and a pivoting hook extractor. Elements such as these generally will not break or wear out easily, causing issues that “cheaper” guns typically run into.
Two guns I’d like to focus on in this article are the CPX-1 and CPX-2 from SCCY. These pistols have been out for awhile with little backlash, only proving that a less expensive gun doesn’t always determine poor quality. The CPX-1 and CPX-2 are basically the same gun with the only difference being the CPX-1 has a manual safety and the CPX-2 does not. Here’s where carrying is for the individual comes into play. Which gun to choose here is dependent on the person and whether they prefer a manual safety or not.
Manual Safety, Or Not
Some would say it’s best to carry a gun with no safety as seconds matter, and in a threat situation you just may forget to manually take off the safety. Others would argue they’re just not comfortable without a manual safety. Whichever way you go, the important thing to remember is training. If you choose the route of a manual safety, make sure you’re consistently training in live and dry fire where taking the safety off is quickly incorporated into your draw. Over time, with dedication it is very possible to have this committed to muscle memory, but only if you’re putting in the time to properly train. In the route of no manual safety, education and training are also a must. Learning and becoming skilled in safe gun handling and carrying are especially crucial.
Whichever route you’d choose, SCCY 9mm pistols are a great choice for concealed carry. Both the CPX-1 and CPX-2 have a DAO (double action only) trigger that’s a solid safety with a pull at approximately nine pounds. This weighted pull may make some wince, but there are some positive aspects. The nine-pound pull is consistent, the same smooth pull every time, allowing you to always know what to expect and fine tune your trigger pull. This is especially helpful for those intimidated with a light trigger. Part of the smooth consistency is due to the use of an inertial firing pin which ensures these guns are drop-safe.
Carry in Color
The grip/frame is made from Zytel polymer with ergonomic finger grooves and an integral “RE-COIL CUSHION” on the back strap. Steel with a Zytel over molded polymer extension incorporated in the slide lock/release give ease of operation. Both guns utilize a 3 Dot Sight System, a steel rear sight, adjustable for windage only with a locking screw. The recoil spring system is all steel and fully encapsulated for ease of disassembly and reassembly. Both the CPX-1 and CPX-2 are chambered in 9mm and come with two double-stack, 10-round capacity magazines with finger extension base installed and two additional flat magazine bases. These guns are smooth with rounded edges, which aid in preventing any type of snagging while carrying concealed.
The MSRP for SCCY 9mm pistols runs is right around $270 to $290. Of course, as the aesthetics go the possibilities are endless in regard to color, after all this is SCCY and color options are kind of their thing. The CPX-1 and CPX-2 are quality guns that won’t break the bank and both great options for concealed carry. The only thing you need to decide now is, manual safety or no.
