Participants will learn techniques and maneuvers to better defend themselves against attackers at a four-hour self-defense seminar, moreover support a Newton County organization.
The self defense seminar taking place on March 29, 2014 will benefit 4Sarah Inc., a non-profit, faith-based organization whose mission is to “empower change in the life direction of women and girls who are adult entertainers, prostitutes, escorts or victims of sexual exploitation,” according to its website.
Kasey McClure founded 4Sarah in 2005 when she was six months pregnant – and only a few months after she quit dancing. McClure said she thought of hosting a self-defense class in order to make the fundraiser event more unique.
“There are always 5K races, so I wanted to get creative and try to empower women in a positive way,” McClure said. “I’ve recently become aware of a few offenders targeting escorts and assaulting them so it triggered in my head that the self-defense class can teach women how to protect themselves and also raise awareness of our organization.”
The seminar will take place at Newton Cheerstarz gym area, located at 8269 Hazelbrand Road in Covington, and will be taught by certified instructors from Action Training Academy.
While the class is family-friendly, McClure said it’s encouraged that participants be at least 14 years old due to some of the graphic self-defense videos that will be shown.
