Self-Defense Tactics for Women

In Cold Spring, KY Cold Spring Police officers Scott Hildebrand and Andy Hyett, along with clerk April Robinson, have presented the Rape Aggression Defense, or RAD, training course for women 13 and older. The city’s police officers have been offering a different kind of special event at DeVanna’s on the Lake. Instead of a wedding, class reunion or anniversary party, the special event venue at 4210 Alexandria Pike has been the site of a free women’s self-defense training course.

The course targets women only, to teach them realistic self-defense tactics ranging from awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance up to basic hands-on defense. “The biggest thing is to be more aware of your surroundings,” said Robinson. “The more aware you are, the more you can prevent something from happening. Prevention is important.” The 12-hour course is broken into four three-hour sessions that end on Tuesday, April 29, but more classes will be scheduled based on interest from residents.
