School shootings seem to hit the news more often lately. Of course, there is debate whether this is because of a change in the news or if there is actually more of them. Regardless, parents are concerned, which is why SentryShield introduced the Bulletproof Backpack Insert.

“We live in difficult times,” said Jason Wakefield, SentryShield chief marketing officer. “But ignoring the reality of those times won’t make us any safer. We believe that any measure of protection you can provide yourself or loved ones is a worthy investment, especially one that is always with you as opposed to an afterthought.”
SentryShield uses 24 layers of ultra-high molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWP) to make the insert NIJ Level IIIA compliant. This basically means that the bulletproof insert will stop up to a .44 Magnum round. The company even claims it will stop a 12-gauge slug.
However, despite its high level of protection, the unit contains no metal of any kind. As such, it can pass through metal detectors, making it ideal for travel. The insert fits in backpacks, briefcases, laptop bags and more. There is even a smaller version designed to go in a handbag.
The cross-woven UHMWP is surrounded by a high-density foam trauma pad and a nylon sleeve. While the unit is not a weapon and will not stop an active shooter, it can raise the chance of surviving a shooting.
“Nothing can offer a guarantee in a tragic situation like one involving an active shooter, but even something as small as SentryShield has the potential to make a very big difference,” said Wakefield.
