The Shadow Systems CR920P 9mm with Integrated Compensator

During the recent SHOT Show 2023, Shadow Systems premiered its newest subcompact, the CR920P, with an integrated compensator. The unique design of the compensator attachment takes up little space allowing the pistol to fit within a G48 holster. Not to mention, the subcompact comes standard with both a 13-round and 10-round magazine.

The CR920P builds on the aggressively textured CR920 subcompact frame. Likewise, the slide features forward and rear cocking serrations as well as top serrations. Riding atop the slide are a steel rear sight and a tritium front sight.

However, the patented Shadow Systems multi-footprint optic cut allows for the direct mounting of most brands of mini-RDS optics. The slide also houses a match-grade, spiral-fluted barrel attached to a machined carbon steel compensator. Both the compensator and slide feature a black nitride finish.

Shadow Systems’ goal with the CR920P design was to create the most effective use of space in the attachment of the compensator. The company illuminated the use of a conventional threaded barrel. Instead, it utilizes a proprietary 3-lug muzzle that works in combination with a centrally located locking lever in the body of the comp.

The 3-lug muzzle allows a self-indexing and self-locking attachment method within a confined space. As a result, the subcompact pistol fits in a G48 holster. Likewise, since it eliminates the threaded barrel, it is compliant in jurisdictions with threaded-barrel bans.  Additionally, the company states that applications of the engineering of this attachment method may give the potential for similar attachment of other muzzle devices, such as suppressors.

The compensator is meant to be used with standard-weight factory springs and various bullet weights. In addition, test shooters reported noticing a 40% reduction in muzzle rise. Following thousands of rounds during testing without cleaning, there was no loss of reliability, and no carbon lock out, according to the company.

Rounds are sent downrange via a drop-safe, flat-faced trigger with a 4.5-5.0-pound trigger pull and crisp, tactile reset. The pistol ships in a zippered pistol rug with two magazines—one 13-round and one 10-round flush fit.
