Sig Sauer is gearing up for what looks to be an exciting 2018. Earlier this week the New Hampshire-based gun maker announced its 11-round 9mm subcompact concealed carry pistol, the P365. Now the company is unveiling its new ASP20 break barrel air rifle.

ASP20 Specs

Available in .177 and .22 calibers, this suppressed single-shot, Advanced Sport Pellet (ASP) break barrel air rifle features a new, two-stage adjustable match-grade trigger system called the ASP MatchLite trigger. Sig says it can be adjusted to break at eight different pull rates. Those rates range from 2.5 to four pounds, whatever is most comfortable for the user. The trigger breaks at 4mm regardless of the pull rate chosen.

The press release also touts the GlideLite cocking mechanism found in the ASP20, which makes it easier to use than competing break barrel rifles. The ASP20 cocks at 33 pounds as opposed to the standard 48 to 52 pound cocking force. Additionally, the action in the ASP20 has a larger diameter and shorter length than others in the marketplace. This helps bring the pivot point closer to the body, making the rifle easier to leverage while also enhancing balance and accuracy, Sig says.

Speaking of accuracy, Sig’s proprietary breech-locking system precisely aligns the barrel to the action for consistent accuracy. All barrels for the ASP20 are rifled by Sig at its New Hampshire headquarters.

Different Models

Powered by a gas piston, the .177 caliber ASP20 offers up 20 foot-pounds of energy with a muzzle velocity of 1,021 feet per second using an 8.64 grain lead pellet. The .22 caliber version delivers 23 foot-pounds of energy. It also has a muzzle velocity of 841 fps with a 14.65 grain lead bullet.

The .177 caliber model is best used for hunting small game—squirrels, crows, rodents and the like. Meanwhile the .22 caliber model is designed for hunting larger animals like woodchucks and groundhogs. The ASP20 sports a rifled steel barrel, ambidextrous safety located outside the trigger guard, and is available with a synthetic or wood stock.

The MSRP for the wood stock version of the ASP20 is $489.99. The synthetic stock rifle has an MSRP of $399.99. The Sig Whiskey3 ASP 4-12×44 Adjustable Objective (AO) riflescope will also be available for the ASP20 at a MSRP of $359.99 starting in May 2018.
