Sig Sauer P227 Named Duty Weapon for Indiana State Police

The P227, double-stack .45-caliber handgun from Sig Sauer, has been selected by the Indiana State Police to serve as its new duty pistol.

The P227 features the ergonomics and controls of the Sig Sauer P226, but is chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge. After an exhaustive period of testing and evaluation of major pistol manufacturers, the Indiana State Police selected the P227 as its new duty pistol.

“Based on the number of requests from agencies, we knew the P227 was going to be popular with law enforcement,” said Gary Wade, Sig Sauer Vice President of Law Enforcement, Government, and Military Sales. “ISP’s rigorous testing proved once again that SIG SAUER is the only choice when it comes to reliable, dependable duty weapons.”

“Reliability and ease of function are must haves in a law enforcement sidearm,” said Doug Carter, Superintendent of the Indiana State Police. “The P227 has both qualities and will serve our needs for many years.”

The department will receive 1,400 P227s beginning December 2013.
