P320-M17: SIG Unveils Commercial Variant of the Army M17

In January 2017, Sig Sauer won the Army’s lengthy Modular Handgun System (MHS) competition. The M17—the pistol the Army selected as its new sidearm—is based on the SIG P320. Now, SIG has announced a commercial variant of that Army gun: the P320-M17.

Chambered in 9mm, the P320-M17 is a striker-fired pistol. This model sports a coyote-tan PVD coated stainless steel slide with the same optic cut specified in the MHS contract. In addition, the black controls match the guns being shipped out to the U.S. Army. Meanwhile, the pistol also comes with a SIGLITE front night sight and a removable night sight rear plate.

The pistol comes with a coyote-tan carry-length grip, available in three sizes, and comes standard with a manual safety. SIG says non-manual safety versions will be sent out “at a later date.”

“It was truly an honor for Sig Sauer to be chosen as the U.S. Army’s choice with the M17. When the selection was announced, civilian interest in the pistol was immediate,” said Tom Taylor, Sig’s chief marketing officer and executive vice president. “We are proud to bring this P320-M17 to the marketplace to meet the substantial civilian interest, and the high demand, to own the pistol the Army uses as well as the other branches of the U.S. Military.”

SIG’s P320-M17 is priced at $768. It’ll hit shelves in August 2018. Specs are below.

Available separately, SIG is also offering an exclusive M17 collector’s case. The case is solid cherry, with dark mahogany stain; tempered glass top; brushed nickel latch; and a keyhole back for wall-hanging.

The case also comes with a slate-grey flocked foam insert with an affixed U.S. Army logo, and laser placement cuts for the pistol, as well as the certificate and the official P320-M17 challenge coin. MSRP on that is $199.99.
