SCO15: SilencerCo Jumps Into the AR Market With Its First Lower

When we think SilencerCo, we think suppressors. The Omega 36M released toward the end of 2019 is a good example. But every now and then, you get a curve ball. The company released a teaser video a last week that had everyone thinking “AR-15 rifle.” You would be kinda’ right and kinda’ wrong. It is an AR-15, but it’s just a lower. Nah, I’m kidding; it’s an AR billet lower with a proprietary ambi bolt catch. And SilencerCo is calling it the SCO15.

Honestly, this might be a great move for SilencerCo. Due to our current 2020 WTF climate and the upcoming elections, AR-15s, AR pistols, AR ammo and AR accessories are flying off the shelves. Manufacturers can’t keep up with demand, so many are starting to build their own AR rifle and/or pistol. It’s a super nice looking lower with all of those nice attention to details that can get overlooked.

SilencerCo SCO15 Lower Features

SCO15, SilencerCo SCO15 AR Lower Receiver, left

The SCO15 starts life as a block of 7075 billet aluminum, which SilencerCo then machines in-house. As mentioned, it also come with SilencerCo’s ambidextrous bolt catch. Nice touches include an enlarged integral triggerguard, flared magazine well, 45- to 90-degree fire selector window (for short throw fire selectors), rear tensioner bolt hole (keeps the upper and lower tight; bolt not included), and an integral ambidextrous anti-rotation QD sling cups at the rear of the receiver. Lastly, SilencerCo finishes it with a Type III Hard Anodize.

If you’re looking to use this lower in your next build, you should note that SilencerCo designed the lower for use with standard Mil-Spec lower part kits and buffer assembly. Remember, there are Mil-Spec and Commercial Spec buffer tubes out there—know which one you’re buying.

The SCO15 has an MSRP $249 and is initially available only through Capitol Armory, and Brownells. The more I look at it, the more I like it. For more information, please visit SilencerCo.com.
