VIDEO: Shooting SilencerCo Switchback 22 Suppressors

During the most recent Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous sound suppression seemed to be a big topic of discussion. There were several suppressor companies in attendance with all kinds of suppressors. It was no surprise that one of my favorite tents was the SilencerCo tent. The company pretty much makes something for any and every firearm on the market. The company is no newcomer when it comes to innovation and technology in the suppressor market, but they may have outdone themselves this time with one of the more recent offerings in the .22 market, the SilencerCo Switchback 22.

SilencerCo Switchback 22 Suppressors

The Switchback 22, according to the numbers, is the best performing rimfire suppressor on the market. It is extremely modular with the ability to transform into four different configurations. If you want the ultimate sound suppression on your .22 LR pistol, you just simply run it in the longest configuration. In this configuration the suppressor is still only 5.75 inches long and weighs only 6.5 ounces. You can also keep the Switchback the same length and weight but make it even quitter if you are running it on a rifle by just simply flipping the front baffle stack backwards. The system gives shooters the ability to utilize the can on both rifles and pistols while achieving the maximum sound suppression possible.

In the full configuration SilencerCo claims an average of 114 DB for pistols or 108 DB in the rifle-optimized configuration. At the range at Rendezvous, I didn’t realize that another shooter just shot a rifle with the switchback installed in the rifle-optimized configuration. He removed the magazine, and I asked if the gun had jammed or something. I literally had no idea he had fired 10 rounds downrange with me standing right next to him.

The modularity really comes into the equation if you want to lighten the can up and run it shorter on your firearm. You can run it in a mid-length configuration by removing the front section and putting the front cap on the longer piece. This will bring the weight down to only 4.3 ounces with a length of 3.59 inches. Your decibels will clearly go up a little in this configuration, but still not terrible at 128.5 on a pistol and just under 118 on a rifle.

But Wait, There’s More…

This suppressor would be perfect for an infomercial. But wait, that’s not all. If you really want to go lightweight and small, you can just run the short section instead. You will barely even know the can is on the end of your barrel, adding only 2.5 inches and weighing a mere 3.2 ounces. It should be obvious in this tiny configuration you will lose a lot of your suppression, but it is still respectable at around 142 DB on a pistol and 125 DB on a rifle.

All this is made achievable thanks to two titanium tubes, which connect using a stainless-steel connector baffle. It features stainless steel baffles internally, which utilize SilencerCo’s Click Together design. The actual serialized part is the back cap, making life easy on a modular can like this one, because that cap must be installed no matter what configuration in which you are using the can. The lightweight design combines with unmatched sound reduction through all the calibers it is for which it is rated. You can shoot .22 LR, .22 WMR, .22 Hornet, .17 HMR, .17 WSM and 5.7x28mm.

The design and combination of high-strength materials ensure its longevity and durability even under hard use or full-auto rates of fire. The Switchback 22 has a unique look that will prove to be perfect aesthetically while also performing flawlessly and keeping things nice and quiet. With an MSRP of $540, this beautiful little can is on the higher side of the .22 LR market. Personally, I think it is worth every penny. This is not your normal gimmicky modular suppressor.
