SK Customs and Springfield Armory Collaborate on the Michelangelo 1911

Known for its popular theme-based 1911 series, SK Customs collaborates with Springfield Armory to release the Michelangelo. First in the upcoming Italian Renaissance series, to run through 2024, it will have a limited run of 250 pieces. The 1911 showcases iconic works of the historic artist and inventor with 24K gold plating selectively accenting the canvas.

Working in collaboration with Springfield Armory, the Michelangelo marks Springfield’s very first engravers model 1911 stainless, chambered in .45 ACP. The 1911 canvas features a semi-polished finish to the frame and slide flats, a high-polished barrel, and selective 24K gold plating. Likewise, SK Customs uses proprietary color conversion engineering to create the highly reflective and permanent teal color throughout.

In addition to the selective gold plating throughout the artwork, the firearm itself also features gold accents. This includes all controls, the hammer, and the barrel bushing. Further highlighting the gold accents are the genuine imported Italian olivewood grip panels with engraved and hand-painted fleur de lis.

The right side of the slide intricately illustrates the “Madonna della Pietá” beautifully highlighted in gold plating. Surrounding the depiction is a framework of intricate scrollwork encapsulated in a gold frame. At the rear of the slide, behind the rear cocking serrations, is a framed special edition number xxx of 250.

The left side of the slide features a depiction of Michelangelo’s famous Sistine Chapel ceiling, highlighted in gold plating. As with the right side, scrollwork framed in gold surrounds the illustration. The rear of the slide includes a gold frame with additional scrollwork.

Rounding out the theme is the top of the slide, with Michelangelo’s portrait sitting just forward of the ejection port. Encasing the portrait is an intricate gold framework, sitting on a scrollwork base and teal rope engraving. In addition, the artist’s signature is engraved into the slide just above the portrait. Finally, Michelangelo’s David, in intricate gold plating, sits just forward of the rear dovetail sight.

“The Michelangelo firearm strikingly introduces this series. The combination of the gold plating and the teal color conversion accents is spectacular, and we are able to pay homage to some of Michelangelo’s most iconic works.”
