Smith & Wesson Model 69 | .44 Magnum | VIDEO

Smith & Wesson Model 69

Smith & Wesson has delivered a production-line pistol with features that used to be a strictly custom job—a 5-shot, L-frame, .44 Magnum, double-action (DA) revolver. This newest combat magnum at a glance looks like the Model 66, a K-frame, 6-shot, .357 Magnum, however the Model 69 is on a slightly bigger frame (though not as large as the N-frame which has been what S&W normally uses for its .44 Magnum six-guns). So, in essence, you have a lighter combat revolver in a serious big-bore chambering that is suitable for self-defense and hunting.

The S&W Model 69 has a 4.25-inch barrel with an ejector rod shroud and red ramp front sight. There is actually a shroud over the stainless steel barrel, and the forward lock is not in the front part of the shroud, but is located on the cylinder crane. Overall length of the Model 69 is 9.75 inches and it weighs 37.2 ounces empty. The black rear sight has a white outline notch and is fully adjustable. The top strap and barrel rib are now fully serrated from one end to the other, just like they were “back in the day,” and this improves both appearance and performance. The frame and cylinder are glass bead blasted stainless steel and the revolver is fitted with synthetic combat-style grips.
