Smith & Wesson M&P FPC: An S&W Folding, 9mm PCC is Here!

Smith & Wessons dropped an absolute bomb today, with the announcement of its latest design–the Smith & Wesson M&P FPC. The Folding Pistol Carbine brings a highly compact, 9mm PCC loaded with M&P M2.0 features. Better still, it rocks up to a 23+1 overall capacity with select magazines.

Smith & Wesson M&P FPC Details

Right from the jump, this one clearly looks to bring massive popularity with most any shooter, but especially M&P owners. The FPC features compatibility with M&P double-stack magazines. It also utilizes interchangeable palm swells just like the M&P pistols for a semi-custom fit.

We love the two onboard magazine carriers built into the stock design. Located just below the cheek piece, it carries two spare mags, held in place via a quick-release latch. The brilliant design provides ready access to a serious payload in extra rounds. The survival gun aspect here just really jumped out to us. Pair that with a folded overall length of just 16 3/8 inches, and you have one highly adaptable platform. Stuff it folded into the provided carry case, and it should stow easily under a truck seat or into a backpack. Then deploy at the ready with three magazines actually in or attached to the gun.

The unique folding design hinges just forward of the trigger guard. There, the 16.25-inch barrel comes surrounded in an M-LOK configured handgaurd. The carbine comes without sights, but the optics-ready platform features ample room on the rail for the attachment a small red dot sight. The side-folding design won’t impede with a top-mounted an optic. A locking latch works the horizontal folding mechanism.

The blowback semi-auto also features an integrated recoil buffer system. A flat-face trigger works the fire control. A charging slide/handle doubles as a retainer when folded, according to S&W. And for those who love attaching a can or other muzzle devices, the FPC comes 1/2-28 threaded at the muzzle; it ships with a knurled thread protector.

Editor’s Take:

Wow! That was our first reaction to the S&W M&P FPC! We’ve been geeking out over this one ever since we started seeing early samples. The gun is out with writers right now, so expect a full review from us in the coming days. At first glance, S&W did an awesome job really tapping into what most shooters want in a folding carbine. Whether in the truck or on the trail, we see tremendous utility in the FPC design.
