SNEAK PEEK: ARMALITE AR-30A1 .308

While many LE and military snipers use the .308 for precision engagements, sometimes they need a little extra power to get the job done. Thankfully, ArmaLite has completely redesigned its AR-30 platform to create the AR-30A1, and author David Bahde was able to get his hands on one in .300 Winchester Magnum for the upcoming September 2013 issue of Tactical Weapons.

The AR-30 became a favorite among many precision-rifle shooters, but, as Bahde writes, “The AR-30’s limitations mostly had to do with its ergonomics. Designed for simplicity, it lacked some of the things needed for professional use.” The new AR-30A1 fixes this with a comfortable, skeletonized buttstock, a crisp 5-pound trigger, an easy-to-use bolt handle, an ambidextrous mag release, an oversized triggerguard, a streamlined forend (a railed stock is also available) and much more.

Bahde states, “For as long as I can recall, this series of ArmaLite rifles has been known for its accuracy.” Does that reputation hold up with the new AR-30A1?
