A DPx folder design driven by function, experience and decades of living in the world’s most dangerous locations!
In the March 2014 issue of Tactical Knives, Steven Dick set out to explain his own knife-testing process to inquisitive TK readers through his review of the DPx HEST/F Milspec folder. This portable folder not only helped Dick explain his field-testing methodology, but it also highlighted the 3-inch DPx Milspec folder’s rugged capabilities.
The HEST series of folders has built a reputation for being strong, portable designs that are prefect for everyday carry. According to Dick, “All of these HEST folders are certainly tough-as-nails field knives, and they are small enough to keep you out of trouble most places with blade-length restrictions.” Dick also noted several HEST characteristics present in the Milspec folder that make it a worthy addition to the series. “The wide blade keeps the edge geometry reasonably good for such a short, heavy knife,” noted Dick. “A close examination of the cutting edge will show that there is no flat area; it gently curves all the way from the heel to the point.”
In his review, Dick put the DPx Milspec folder though a series of field tests that tasked the Milspec with clearing tangled brush from farm equipment and, in a task that puts the “everyday” in everyday carry, even tested the knife design’s bottle-opener notch.
