While there are several semi-auto shotgun platforms, author David Bahde is always drawn to those inspired by the AK, and the new MOLOT VEPR 12 gauge is no exception. In the December 2013 issue of Special Weapons for Military & Police, Bahde wrings out a VEPR 12 after giving it a few upgrades.
Bahde relates some of its features: “Built on an RPK receiver, the MOLOT VEPR 12 is stronger—stiffer than the standard AK receiver—and perfect for the 12 gauge. Imported as designed, the trigger mechanism and pistol grip require no alteration. These two features alone make it easier for the average enthusiast.” Before hauling it to the range, he added a folding stock, a competition magazine funnel, a Tromix Shark Brake, a Magpul XTM hand stop and more.
