Springfield’s XDM pistols are fast becoming the most popular combat handguns on the market. One of the reasons is their excellent Compact line. Until now, the caliber that has been missing from the 3.8 Compact lineup was the .45 ACP. The wait is over—the XDM 3.8 Compact in .45 ACP is finally here, and for many, this might be the quintessential carry pistol.
The XDM 3.8 Compact .45 received for testing had a two-tone finish sporting a stainless steel slide and black polymer receiver. It arrived in a nice hard case with all the features that are the norm with this pistol line: A flush as well as full-sized magazine, holster, magazine carrier, a couple extra magazine extensions for fitting full-sized magazines, and different-sized grip straps. Ambidextrous controls, aggressive checkering, and the ability to attach a small light if desired are all present. It really is a pretty complete package for anyone carrying a concealed pistol.
Every XDM that has gone through my hands has been accurate, reliable, and really easy to shoot. It will be very interesting to see if this is the same in the .45 ACP caliber. For more details, take a gander at my upcoming complete test and evaluation in the next issue of Combat Handguns. For now, enjoy a short video of this pistol in action and some closer shots of the package.
