The Ruger LCR, or Lightweight Compact Revolver, is now available in 9mm. This polymer-frame revolver, the first of its kind, brings the benefits of significantly reduced weight and a higher strength-to-weight ratio than steel in addition to being impervious to corrosion and moisture. It should be noted that only the lower part of the frame containing the grip, hammer and triggerguard is polymer. The top part of the receiver is a monolithic frame made from 7000 series aluminum for reduced weight without sacrificing an ounce of strength or integrity. On the .357 Magnum and 9mm models, the frame is made from blackened 400 series stainless steel for strength and durability.

The LCR is a double-action-only (DAO) design with a hidden hammer and a five-shot cylinder. The trigger features a friction-reducing cam that produces an extremely smooth double-action trigger pull. The stainless steel cylinder has been heavily fluted for further weight reduction while maintaining optimal strength. The Hogue Tamer grip does an excellent job of taming perceived recoil, especially given the revolver’s light weight and the heavier-kicking 9mm loading. The barrel is 1.875 inches long and is topped with a pinned, replaceable front ramp sight. The rear sight is an integral U-notch. Finally, the LCR revolver is given a Ionbond Diamondblack finish that is very durable and easier to conceal.

Because the 9mm case is rimless Ruger provides moon clips for faster loading and positive ejection; however, 9mm cartridges can be loaded and fired without the moon clip. But in this situation, ejection then requires the use of a tool such as a pen.
