A popular self-defense class is making waves in one South Carolina community.

According to WACH FOX, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department hosted the self-defense class last Saturday as part of a crime prevention program designed to teach women different techniques which are vitally important when faced with a potentially dangerous situation.

The class has proven to be a hit with local residents.

“My daughter had an incident with a car jacking and an abduction in Columbia recently. We’ve just really felt victimized. And I’m here to support her and help her feel that she can find some control and empowerment.” said one class attendee who did not wish to be identified.
