Christmas has come early for Speer. The Idaho-based ammo maker just won a massive contract to supply multiple Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agencies with up to 120 million rounds of its 124-grain, 9mm Luger Gold Dot Duty ammunition.

“Speer Gold Dot has a long history of providing trusted performance time and time again for our nation’s law enforcement and military. We’re very proud to provide Gold Dot to the DHS for their duty ammunition needs,” Jason Nash, Speer’s product director, said in a press release.
Every Gold Dot hollow-point cavity is tuned by caliber and bullet weight for optimum expansion and penetration. The Uni-Cor construction process bonds the jacket to the alloyed lead core to “eliminate core-jacket separation while guaranteeing uniform jacket thickness for superior accuracy,” Speer says.
Other features include CCI primers; high-powered, clean-burning propellants; and nickel-plated brass cases. According to the product page, it boasts a muzzle velocity of 1,150 fps and generates 364 foot-pounds of energy when tested out of a four-inch barrel.
The contract is set to begin in 2018 and will run for a period of up to five years. ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) is the primary DHS agency named in the presser, but DHS also encompasses other law enforcement agencies like the United States Secret Service, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
