Springfield Armory M1A Tanker Blends SOCOM 16, M1 Garand

Springfield Armory recently announced its newest rifle, the M1A Tanker. The M1A Tanker takes inspiration from the vintage “Tanker” Garand of WWII, blending into the modern SOCOM 16 platform. The result is a classic-looking rendering of a modern, compact M1A rifle.

Springfield Armory M1A Tanker Features

The M1A Tanker comes as a maneuverable and compact rifle. It features a 16.25-inch parkerized barrel, nearly 10 inches shorter than the standard M1A model. As such, it excels at quick-handling in close quarters, according to Springfield Armory.

The defining characteristic comes in the all-new walnut stock. Meanwhile, an enlarged ghost ring rear aperture includes windage and elevation adjustment. A front sight features an XS sight post with a tritium insert for low-light target acquisition. The rifle weighs in at 8.75 pounds overall. However, Springfield Armory’s muzzle brake cuts recoil and delivers fast follow-up shots, even in a lightweight .308/7.62 package.

“Our M1A SOCOM 16 was honored with the Golden Bullseye Award for “Rifle of the Year” in 2005,” said Steve Kramer, Springfield Armory Vice President of Marketing. “Because of the enduring popularity of that model, we wanted to offer that same rifle with a new walnut stock for a variation we know our customers will love.”

The M1A Tanker accepts the same magazines as other M1A models, so users can choose from 5, 10, or 20-round magazines. A ten-round parkerized magazine comes with the M1A Tanker. The Springfield Armory M1A Tanker retails for $1,987. For even more info, visit springfield-armory.com.
