Springfield Armory has introduced several new variations to some of its existing 1911 lines for 2015, including its Operator and Range Officer series. Building upon the company’s reputation for continually trying to enhance the classic 1911 design, these new additions supply operators with improved ergonomics and a wider variety of caliber choices for self-defense or duty use.

The Range Officer Champion is a 4-inch-barrelled 1911-style pistol that features a full-length magazine and Springfield’s cocobolo wood cross-cannon grips. While previously available only in .45 ACP, Springfield has introduced a new 9mm variant for 2015 that boasts reduced recoil and holds 9+1 rounds (versus 7+1 for the .45 ACP model).
Springfield has also added two additions to its Operator lineup with the Marine Corps Operator and the Loaded Operator Black, both in .45 ACP. In addition to an ambidextrous thumb safety and lightweight delta hammers, the Operator 1911 designs feature an accessory rail for the addition of a tactical light or laser aiming device. The 5-inch-barrelled Marine Corps Operator features a forged steel frame, G10 grips and a new serration pattern on the frontstrap that helps keep the gun in hand but won’t abrade or snag on clothing.
The Loaded Operator Black is also a 5-inch-barelled 1911 pistol, however this addition to the Operator series offers an 8+1 capacity of .45 ACP, a smooth frontstrap and an enhanced mag well to facilitate speed reloads.
