New: The Feature-Packed Springfield Saint Edge AR-15

Springfield Armory doesn’t waste any time. Just two weeks after unveiling the new Saint AR pistol, the company has once again expanded the Saint series—which made its debut a year ago—to include the new Saint Edge, which is loaded with proprietary features to produce what the company is calling the “most advanced Saint yet.”

The first thing to note about the Springfield Saint Edge is its lower billet receiver is machined—not forged—from aircraft grade 7075 T6 billet aluminum. The lower features Springfield’s Accu-Tite tension system, which eliminates receiver play, and it has two QD mounting points. The type III forged upper receiver, meanwhile, has a flat-top, optics-ready design and is equipped with a forward assist, M4 feed ramps and an exclusive mid-sized charging handle. The M16 bolt carrier group is Melonite treated, shot peened and MPI tested, with a 9310 steel bolt.

The Saint Edge features a patent-pending, free-float aluminum handguard which is slim and M-LOK compatible for accessories. Under the handguard, a mid-length, adjustable gas block, pinned in place, offers smooth operation for high-volume shooters. Also included is  a modular match, short-reset, Melonite-treated single stage trigger which offers a crisp, clean trigger press with zero creep, the company says.

Weighing in at just over six pounds, the lightweight Saint Edge is chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO and features a 16-inch CMV barrel that is Melonite finished inside and out, with a 1:8 twist. The included SA-Lite muzzle brake is ultra lightweight and multi-ported, creating a compensator that offers up reduced recoil and “super-steady, repeatable on-target rounds,” according to Springfield.

The Saint Edge also features a ½ MOA windage adjustable dual aperture rear sight and ½ MOA elevation-adjustable front sight that can be folded down or used to co-witness with optics.

Meanwhile, this rifle also comes with updated furniture, including a Bravo Mod 3 pistol grip; six-position Bravo Mod 0 SopMod butt stock; and Mil-Spec hard coat anodized aluminum receiver extension.

“The Saint Edge is a tight, light, fast-handling machine that operators can count on — the most advanced AR-15 we’ve ever built”, Springfield CEO Dennis Reese said in a press release. “It’s a high quality, performance-based rifle with premium options built in — you don’t have to swap out features to upgrade it. We believe that, shot for shot, dollar for dollar, it’s the best you can get.”
