Talladega Police officers regularly train at the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s Marksmanship Park, a state-of-the-art service rifle and pistol range located in Talladega that Glock has supported since its creation. This 500-acre facility hosts everything from sporting clays to action pistol matches to 3-Gun shoots. How often do you see a shooting park where you can rent a golf cart and be in a place big enough to make use of it?

As its name implies, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) was created for the express purpose of training citizen soldiers to defend America. It dates all the way back to the year 1903. The CMP is the organization through which countless retired military firearms have been distributed to law-abiding American citizens.

According to its website, the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s mission is “To instruct citizens of the United States in marksmanship; to promote practice and safety in the use of firearms; to conduct competitions in the use of firearms and to award trophies, prizes, badges, and other insignia to competitors.” The program is also designed to reach as many youth participants as possible.

In parallel fashion, Glock has also devoted extensive resources to promoting firearms safety and skill enhancement among the civilian population as well as law enforcement and the military. With mission statements so similar, it is no wonder that both Glock and the CMP have found themselves working hand in hand to foster the noble goals embodied by the superb facility that is the CMP Marksmanship Park in Talladega, Ala.
