A couple of years ago, Taurus released its GX4, and it changed the way people look at Taurus—for the better. Made in the United States, the budget-friendly pistol built on the momentum the company gained through the G2 and G3 series. However, sometimes unforeseeable issues can arise that require attention. For this reason, Taurus released a safety notice on certain GX4 pistols assembled and sold only in the United States.
Taurus Issues GX4 Safety Notice
Effective immediately, Taurus issues a safety notice on the GX4 pistol line. This includes the GX4, GX4XL, and T.O.R.O. models. At the heart of the notice are some GX4 pistols assembled and sold only in the United States. Under certain circumstances, the affected pistols will discharge when dropped.
For this reason, Taurus asks that you safely unload your GX4 and stop using it immediately. According to the company, “Failure to observe this warning may result in injury or death to you or others.”
To determine whether or not your GX4 is subject to this notice, go to GX4SafetyNotice.com and enter the serial number. The serial number is located to the rear of the pistol. Once you enter the serial number, follow the website’s instructions to determine the next steps.
If your GX4 is not covered by this notice, please disregard it, and you can continue using your GX4 safely.
You can also contact the company by phone at 1-229-515-8464, online service request submission, email (on the website), or by U.S. Mail at:
Taurus International Manufacturing, Inc.

Taurus acknowledges the inconvenience this may cause and will inspect, repair (if necessary), and return your pistol to you free of charge. Likewise, the company will cover the shipping fees involved in heeding this safety notice.
We spoke with a representative today, and the turnaround time is approximately four weeks.
Taurus asks that if you no longer have the pistol, please forward this safety notice to the current owner.
