Tennessee Homeowner Uses GLOCK to Take Down Home Invader

A homeowner shot and killed an intruder inside his East Knox County, Tennessee residence Wednesday morning.

According to WVLT, the incident occurred just before 11 a.m. on 1001 Randall Road. The homeowner was sleeping in the bedroom when he awoke to the sound of breaking glass. He then saw a man entering his home through the living room window.

“The homeowner had a Glock firearm in his hand. He fired off one round,” Knox County spokesperson Martha Dooley said.

The single shot killed the home invader. It hasn’t been confirmed where he was hit.

“When he was shot, he fell out of the window, onto the front porch,” Dooley says.

As WVLT reports, the dead suspect — identified as 40-year-old James Melvin Vinson — had a two warrants out on him and an extensive rap sheet that includes theft, drug possession, probation violation, vandalism and aggravated burglary.

“The suspect … has quite a long history with the Sheriff’s Office and Knoxville Police Department,” said Dooley.

Police are still investigating the incident and have not said if there will be any charges filed against the homeowner, but this appears to be a clear-cut self-defense shooting.
