Texas Mom Tackles Peeping Tom
“I figured at least I could do, if I got him down, tripped him up, whatever, then they would have the chance to get caught up,” Phyllis Pena told KPRC Houston. “First instinct was just to make sure he didn’t go any further.”
With her daughter looking on, footage shows Pena take matters into her own hand. She rushes in without hesitation, risking personal injury. And police gushed about her selflessness in helping apprehend the suspect.
“It’s not very often that we have somebody that actually steps in, puts themself in harm’s way to assist in apprehending somebody,” Sgt. Roy Welch told KPRC.
Pena’s actions proved heroic. But her courage to act came from a place typically reserved for parents.
“My kids are my life and just making sure I protect them,” Pena said.
The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Zane Hawkins, now faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, along with evading and resisting arrest, reported KPRC. Police said even more charges could come later.
In the end, officers heaped much praise on Pena. One officer even said, jokingly, she looked like she enough game for the NFL.
“The cop fist-bumped me and he was like, ‘Hey, so I heard the Texans are looking for a new linebacker,’” Pena said, according to KPRC.
We’re guessing the Texans coaches would prefer to see her get that head across the bow, as they say. But everyone will no doubt be impressed with the fight, and the takedown, from this Texas mom.
