Texas Restaurant Posts ‘Guns Welcome’ Signs On Storefront

A restaurant in North Texas is allowing its patrons to carry concealed guns when they come in for a meal.

According to NBC DFW, the owners of Tater Junction in Aurora posted signs on their doors which read, “Notice: Guns Welcome on Premises.”

Co-owner Darren Trainer said they decided to put the signs up when they took over ownership of the restaurant as a way of bucking the trend of posting “No Guns” signs on restaurant storefronts.

As NBC DFW reports, the signs also say “Please leave weapons holstered unless need arises. In such cases judicious marksmanship is appreciated.” It’s meant as a lighthearted joke, but it’s also a way of letting patrons know how the owners feel about the issue of concealed carry.

“To know that there are places that still allow them to carry, which is their right,” said manager Tammara Moreno.

In addition to the signs, Tater Junction also teaches a weekly concealed carry class with a licensed trainer.

“We want to make sure that people are safe with guns. It’s not like the Old West,” said Trainer.

So far, the restaurant’s policy has proven to be a hit in the local community.

“I loved it when I saw it,” Alan Witten, who has frequented the restaurant for about a decade, said of the sign. “It’s peace of mind. It’s better to have it and to not need it than to ever wake up some day and need it but not have it.”
