Book Corner: Warrior Tu Lam Defies the Odds in The Way of Ronin

It has been my pleasure to know Tu Lam of Ronin Tactics for over six years now. We met through a mutual friend, Curtis Iovito of Spartan Blades—also a retired Green Beret. However, after reading Tu’s book, The Way of Ronin, I am even more thankful to call him a friend—and even more so for his service.

The Way of Ronin

Through a succinct and engaging narrative, Tu guides the reader through the series of life experiences that shaped him. His journey from childhood in war-torn Vietnam to becoming a successful businessman is as enjoyable to read as it is often heartbreaking.

Through his story, readers get a firsthand look at what it takes to become one of America’s most elite warriors—the Green Beret. Tu also carefully details his ascent through higher-level security details throughout his career. In addition, there are the side trips through his semi-pro fighting career—with a shot at going pro.

Throughout all of this, Tu finished his college degree because his mother always said, “If you have an education, you’ll never be oppressed.”

Unfortunately, like many of our brave soldiers, Tu’s service came at a cost. Like so many others, he retired from the military with deep-seated pain and anger that almost consumed him. However, Tu does not shy away from sharing his experience and the steps he took to overcome his inner monster.

I want to be careful not to give away too much of the book. Not because it is top secret—like many of the missions Tu was careful not to overindulge in his recounting. But because I don’t want to spoil it for you. You deserve to take in every word of this book and process it in your own way.

Through adversity and trials, Tu has emerged as a successful businessman, TV personality, and Call of Duty video game icon. Likewise, he uses his experience as a top-tier elite soldier to train military, law enforcement, and law-abiding civilians across the country.

If this book is not made into a movie, it will be one of the great tragedies of our time.
