‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Trailer

As far as military movies go, the original “Top Gun” might not register as a serious representation of air warfare. However, as we already stated, it was the “cool” factor that made it such a success. Even former U.S. Navy SEAL Kyle Defoor listed it as his favorite military movie during an interview with Ballistic Magazine (go to the 2:47 mark).

“Honestly, taking all of the seriousness of it — just pure entertainment — I would say ‘Top Gun,'” Defoor said. “… Kind of cheesy, but I still watch it. I showed it to my son, my 12-year-old, not long ago and he loved. Thought it was the greatest thing he’d ever seen.”

Now, 34 years after the original, the sequel has finally arrived. The plot, however, is being kept under wraps. Having now watch the official trailer, it looks like Cruise’s character returns to TOPGUN — the United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program made famous in the original. There, he teaches a new class of recruits. For what? Well, that’s still to be determined. But we’re sure the plot we’ll include plenty of references to the original to keep nostalgia fans happy. And honestly, with all of the new technology, we’re kind of excited to see what new planes make the cut for the sequel.
