Truck Guns: 9 New Compact, Collapsible PDWs to Consider

Thanks to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, U.S. residents seem a little more focused on protecting themselves. If you need to hit the road quickly, having a few good bug out or truck guns in your bag probably isn’t a bad idea during times like these. Compact PDWs (personal defense weapons) are all the rage these days. We figured now was a good time to explore some options for you.

Truck Guns for 2020 and Beyond

For this list we’re not talking about handguns. No, we’re talking about modern PDWs—AR pistols and SBRs and similar firearms that fold, collapse, and transport easily. Put them in your bag and go. Now, there’s a variety of truck guns below. We tried to keep them current, with one offering not even officially on shelves yet.

SIG Sauer MCX Rattler

Bug Out Guns, SIG Rattler, SIG Sauer MCX Rattler

Overall, it’s what most people look for in a transportable PDW. Oh, it’s also available in 5.56 NATO for those who prefer. Check out Tactical-Life’s full review of SIG Rattler for a deeper dive on the SBR variant.

Ruger first announced the PC Charger in March 2020. Based on Ruger’s popular PC Carbine, there’s a lot to like here, starting with a sub-$800 MSRP; that leaves plenty of room to add aftermarket accessories to the PC Charger, as our friends at Personal Defense World did. It also takes Glock magazines, so there’s that. For more information, please visit Ruger.com.

bug out guns, Chiappa CBR 9, Chiappa Black Rhino

Chiappa designed its CBR-9 (Black Rhino) as a PDW, and it shows. For starters, it features a built-in telescoping pistol brace; it looks sharp and, as one would figure, makes the firearm a “pistol” in the eyes of the ATF. It also has a proprietary magazine design, which Personal Defense World details more in its CBR 9 review. For more information, please visit ChiappaFirearms.com.
