The following is a press release from Turnbull
Turnbull Restoration & Manufacturing Co. of Bloomfield, New York is proud to announce the introduction of a new line of 1911 pistols – the BBQ Series. These pistols are based on the classic 1911 design and feature Turnbull’s world renowned attention to detail and workmanship.
All of the styles have in common a 24 karat gold inlay of a crossed fork and spatula, the insignia of the BBQ Series and have a unique serial number that is hand cut with the BBQ designation. The Turnbull BBQ series of 1911s offers a choice of four styles of hand engraving on one of two frames. Each style offers the discriminating collector an opportunity to own a top quality pistol with classic engraving in the style that best suits the owner. MSRP on the BBQ Series starts at $5,000. All components are made in the U.S.A.
“The 1911 pistol has always held a special place in my heart,” commented CEO Doug Turnbull. “We felt that this was the exact time to really take that classic design and really make it a classic Turnbull. This is the first time we are offering four options of engraving across an entire line. These guns are really special.”

The four BBQ 1911 pistols are the BBQ Government, BBQ Government Heritage, BBQ Commander and BBQ Commander Heritage. All are .45 ACP and feature elk grips, solid one piece trigger, Turnbull Turning Bull Stamp and Doug Turnbull inspection stamp. All models come with 2 two-tone magazines.
The Government and Government Heritage have a 5 inch barrel, WWI style sight with semi-circle notch, color case hardened frame or charcoal blued and a short, wide spur hammer. The Commander and Commander Heritage have a 4.25 inch barrel and a carbon steel frame. Both come finished with nitre blue finishes.
The engraving options for the BBQ 1911 Series are:
Scroll: Derived from classic American scroll engraving from around the 1850s, this style features a bold flowing scroll, with single line shading, and classic punch dot background in the interior of the design to provide extensive clean coverage on our 1911 pistols.
Flare: A different type of engraving adorns our Flare cut series 1911s. Flare Cut consists of heavy, deep engraving cuts that meet together to form a bright sparkling pattern that has the look of heavily sculpted engraving. This style results in an intricately unique design which is also very durable.
Grape: Leaves and vines flow across the surfaces of the pistol. This style has deep roots in the history of engraving, having been used on firearms over the past several hundred years. Grape leaves, vines, and grape clusters alternate along the pistol, with fine line shading for depth and movement.

Colt: This BBQ engraving inherits its styling from the fine engraved Colt pistols of the early 20th century. This style features Colt style scroll with punch dot background, and fancy borders to accent the lines of the pistol.
