USS James E. Williams (DDG-95), an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, is set to deploy today from Norfolk Naval Station.
According to the Virginian-Pilot, the ship and crew will travel to the Sixth Fleet area of operations. The area of responsibility for the Sixth Fleet covers half of the Atlantic Ocean, from the North Pole to Antarctica; as well as the Adriatic, Baltic, Barents, Black, Caspian, Mediterranean and North Seas.

While there, the destroyer will take part in security operations and exercises with other countries in conjunction with U.S. Africa Command.
The ship will be deployed for eight months.
