Daniel Defense has been building some of the most reliable and well-built AR-platform rifles for years. While it started by building super-strong handguards, the company has grown into one of the most trusted AR builders in the world. Daniel Defense’s guns are simple, reliable and rugged—they’re designed to work no matter what. Lately, as .308 Winchester/7.62mm NATO ARs have become more popular, shooters have been clamoring for a Daniel Defense-built version to add to their arsenals. Now the company has come through with flying colors. Say hello to the DD5V1.

The DD5V1 sports a number of innovative features. The first thing you’ll notice is the four-bolt connection system that securely attaches the free-floating, cold-hammer-forged, chrome-moly-vanadium steel, chrome-lined, 16-inch, S2W-profile barrel and KeyMod handguard to the upper without a barrel nut. The bolt and carrier are designed with an oversized cam pin, enhanced extractor geometry and dual ejectors for optimum reliability.
The lower receiver features an integral, enlarged triggerguard and ambidextrous controls, including the safety, mag release and bolt release. Another nice feature: the Geissele SSA two-stage trigger.
Weighing in at 8.3 pounds (unloaded), the DD5V1 was easy to shoot, maneuver and carry during testing.
