Stow it and Go: The Volquartsen 22 LR VT2 Takedown Rifle

Whether you are out for a hike, small game hunting, or looking for a portable truck/pack gun, it’s hard to beat a takedown rifle. They are lightweight and occupy little space in your overall loadout. For this reason, Volquartsen adds the .22 LR to its VT2 Takedown Rifle, for a total of three caliber options.

The Volquartsen VT2 Takedown Rifle

Available in .22 WMR, .17 HMR, and now .22 LR, the VT2 features a 16.5-inch lightweight barrel. The 1/2X28 threaded barrel comes with an aluminum 2-inch forward blow compensator already attached. This is designed to stabilize the muzzle while directing the noise away from the shooter.

The barrel is nestled in your choice of a 6-inch or 12-inch handguard, both featuring M-LOK attachment points. It is worth noting that the .22 WMR and .17 HMR can swap calibers simply by changing the barrels. However, the .22 LR has a different action size and cannot swap calibers like this.

The aluminum VT2 takedown receiver features an AR-15 buffer tube with Magpul MOE Milspec stock. Likewise, a Magpul MOE-K AR-15 grip provides the interface between the shooter and the TG2000 trigger with a 2.25-pound pull. Additionally, a 0-MOA integral Picatinny rail runs the length of the top of the receiver to attach optics and other accessories.

Where the VT2 really shines is in its takedown repeatability. It uses a unique button and lever combination that requires no tools, twisting, or tightening. Just depress the takedown button, release the locking lever by pulling it down, and the barrel slides out of the receiver.

To reassemble it, slide the barrel back into the receiver and push the locking lever back into position. Due to the unique design and tight tolerances, the point of impact remains fixed even after removing and reinstalling the barrel.

“A takedown platform is only as good as its repeatability. This reason is why it was critical for us to be able to design a takedown rifle that not only required no tools, but was able to be accurate, repeatable, and reliable every time it’s reassembled,” commented Volquartsen President Scott Volquartsen.
