Why the Walther Q5 Match SF Is in the ‘Pistol of the Year’ Conversation

We’ll start by saying that if it’s good enough for Cable, it’s good enough for us; that’s a reference to the 2018 movie “Deadpool 2” and the film’s antagonist, Cable. Along with all of his futuristic weaponry, Cable also wields a Walther Q5 Match during multiple action sequences. Unfortunately for Cable, he has the original polymer version and not the Walther Q5 Match SF (Steel Frame).

Testing the Walther Q5 Match SF

It’s actual not that unfortunate for Cable. The polymer version of the Q5 Match is an excellent handgun. It’s light, fast and about as straight shooting a pistol as you’ll find, second to its Steel Frame brother. Walther simply upped its game for the Steel Frame variant, which is arguably the best handgun to come out in 2019.

We spoke with Walther’s Cody Osborn at the 2019 Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous who gave us the scoop on what makes the Steel Frame model so special. He even let us shoot his personal pistol, which is just a little bit nicer than what you’re likely shooting. He topped it with a Leupold DeltaPoint Pro and added a SureFire X300 Ultra LED WeaponLight underneath.

Even without those extra goodies, the Streel Frame variant is something special. Given the weight and overall design, getting back on target is as easy as could be. We highly recommend testing one, at the very least. Watch the entire video with Osborn above. For more information, please visit WaltherArms.com.
