Steyr Arms recently announced the debut of a truly unique new rifle platform, the Monobloc. Moreover, the Monobloc breaks new ground with a barreled action that is cold hammer forged from a piece of steel. And yes, you heard that correctly. The Monobloc utilizes one contiguous piece of steel for the barrel and action. Steyr further claims the Monobloc delivers an “ultra-accurate rifle, built to military-grade standards.”

The Monobloc features a 22-inch barreled action. Meanwhile, the barrel end utilizes muzzle threads to accept a range of aftermarket brakes and suppressors. Additionally, Steyr says the barreled action is “tightly mated to an ergonomic and distinctively styled synthetic stock via an integral aluminum bedding block.
The stock adds leather inlays in the forend, pistol grip and cheek piece, providing a unique look. A single-set, detachable trigger, Steyr’s hand-cocking safety system, and tang-mounted selector button provide familiar touches to Steyr fans.
The Monobloc feeds from a detachable four-round steel magazine and will be available initially in .308 Win. and .30-’06 Spr., with .270 Win., 7x64mm and 8x57mm coming later in 2019. The Monobloc measures 42.3 inches overall, with a total weight of 8.2 pounds.
Steyr says the Monobloc will be available this spring in several different color combinations, including black, cool gray, green, mocha and sand, with inserts available in black, brown or sand. Suggested retail will be $5,250.
