For anyone that spent their youth thumbing through gun magazines, this one should hit just like shiny Monte Carlo stocks and white line spacers. Weatherby announced the return of an old school flamethrower of yesteryear, the Mark V Deluxe Varmintmaster. Better still, they’re resurrecting the .224 Weatherby Magnum cartridge for good measure.
Legend Reborn: Weatherby Mark V Deluxe Varmintmaster
The new Mark V Varmintmaster brings a modernized take on Roy Weatherby’s legendary small-caliber hunting rifle. With an option in .224 Weatherby Magnum, it comes back with flair, loaded by Weatherby in Sheridan, Wyoming.
Originally introduced in 1964, the Varmintmaster utilized a six-lug bolt-action, designed for high-velocity cartridges like the .224 Wby Mag. The new Mark V Standard Short Action realizes this proud legacy, featuring a refined design. For anyone familiar with the nine-lug Magmum or six-lug Standard Action of the Mark V line, this new action measures slightly longer than the original Varmintmaster. This will no doubt open some exciting doors in cartridge development down the road!

Modern Enahancements
The Deluxe Varmintmaster retains its signature Monte Carlo AA-grade walnut stock with a high-gloss finish. It comes with diamond-point checkering and a distinctive rosewood forend grip cap. The barrel now features a threaded muzzle for brakes and suppressors, updated to a 1:8 twist as well. This faster twist allows shooters to stabilize heavier bullets like the 80.5-grain Berger FBT for increased long-range performance.
The new Varmintmaster comes in .224 Wby Mag or .22-250. The rifle blends heritage with modern ballistics, offering varmint and predator hunters a rifle that excels in accuracy, durability and timeless Weatherby style.
