Watch the video below to see an unintentional discharge of a Winchester SXP Shotgun
Winchester has issued a safety warning and recall notice for a limited number of SXP — Super X Pump — shotguns with 3 ½” chambers.
According to the press release, certain models may unintentionally discharge while closing the action. This is a serious issue which puts the user at risk of personal injury or death.
“If you own one of the following firearms, please immediately contact our Winchester Consumer Administrative Center to find out if your firearm is affected and should be returned. Please be prepared to provide the serial number of your firearm,” the statement reads.
Here are the SXP shotguns affected by this recall: the 26-inch and 28-inch SXP Waterfowl Hunter, the 26-inch or 28-inch SXP Black Shadow, the 24-inch SXP Turkey Hunter and the 24-inch SXP Long Beard.
“If you have purchased one or more of the shotguns listed above, and have confirmed with the Winchester Consumer Administrative Center that it is an affected shotgun, please note that such shotguns should not, under any circumstance, be loaded or fired until they have been inspected and/or repaired by the Winchester Repeating Arms Service Center,” the statement continues.
After your SXP shotgun is inspected and/or repaired by the Winchester Repeating Arms Service Center, it will be given an inconspicuous mark on the front of the receiver. “To view the mark use a flashlight or other light source to peer past the action bars to the front of the receiver,” the statement reads. “To view the mark more easily, you can remove the barrel.”
